Patricia Kaas is one of the most successful French-speaking singers in the world. With her special mixture of pop music, jazz and chanson, she has sold more than 14 million records worldwide. With her album "Je te dis vous" she has made it to the top of Germany's charts. This film is a portrait about a unique woman who is the figurehead of french chanson. For "Ma Vie" we visited Patricia Kaas in Zurich and Paris, two of the most significant places in her life.

Wilhelm II – Peace or War?
Did Wilhelm II., Germany's last emperor and first media star, live a tragic double life? Was the monarch who led into World War I at the same time the treasured hero of a circle of art -lovers opposed to anything military? Was he put under pressure, because his intimates were brought to court and accused of being homosexual? Along the historic processes against the members of the emperor’s entourage, the film reflects on the morals, customs and taboos and draws a picture of the last years of the German Empire by a unique approach.

Hollywood is the ultimate American Dream – which is why nobody would expect its success story to have its origins in smalltown Germany – Laupheim – home of the Swabian immigrant Carl Laemmle.
Coinciding with Hollywood’s centenary the documentary „100 years of Hollywood – The Carl Laemmle Story“ traces the life of this small man from Germany, who came to own the world’s biggest film studio. Together with his niece, the actress Carla Laemmle, who was born in the same year the Dream Factory was set up 100 years ago, we embark on a fascinating journey through film history – going back in time, where everything was just „wild“, where at Universal, the first Hollywood Studio ever, Native Americans, elephants and monsters lurked around every corner.
In never broadcasted before archive material we suffer with the grand gestures of silent screen diva Mary Pickford, and experience spine-tingling horror facing the Phantom of the Opera Lon Chaney, Frankenstein Boris Karloff and Dracula Bela Lugosi. We fear for the hereos in „All Quiet on the Western Front“ and celebrate Carl Laemmle’s Academy Award for this courageous film.
It’s a unique life’s work, upon which „100 years of Hollywood“ not only looks back. The film also searches for Carl Laemmle’s present traces. In spring 2010 author and director Kai Christiansen and his team, cameraman Torben Müller and sound engineer Beate Müller travelled to California. There, they delved into Carl Laemmle’s legacy accompanied by today’s stars and filmmakers. VIP-journalist Frances Schoenberger opens the door to her Hollywood Hills home, actor John Malkovich and three time Academy Award winning composer Howard Shore offer insights into their personal success stories and director Peter Bogdanovich, who worked with many of Hollywood’s early stars, tells hilarious insider anecdotes. The film „100 years of Hollywood – The Carl Laemmle Story“ offers a unique view behind the scenes of the world’s most succesful film factory.
